White Russian
Travelling makes people not
only get interested in views but also makes them thirsty. Tasting new
dishes as well as new drinks is one of the necessary part of any trip abroad.

A coctail is...
White Russian
No need to go far away to taste it. Just drop
into the nearest bar and make an order.
Classical proportions: 2 parts of
Vodka, 1 part of Coffee liqueur and 1 part of cream.
Here is the recipe of White Russian (for those who don’t want to go out ;)
1 serving:
50 ml (2 oz) Vodka;
25 ml (1 oz) cream;
25 ml (1 oz) Coffee liqueur;
100 g ice cubes.
Pour Vodka and Coffee liqueur
over the ice cubes in an-old fashioned glass.
Add light cream and serve.
Enjoy!
Historical background
Some say that the name of the
cocktail was originally associated with the White Russian immigrants of the 1920s.
(The Red ones remained at the helm.) The first variation of the cocktail was
known as the White Bear and could be found in the manuals for barmen of the 1930s.
According to the Oxford English Dictionary the first mentioning of the cocktail
took place in California in 1965. It is a favourite drink of the 1980s as well as
it is popular nowadays, especially after appearing in such films as the Big
Lebowski (1998) and How To Lose Friends And Alienate People (2008).
Quite noticeable that
if a barman skips the cream it will be already a Black Russian. If the White
Russian is given a shake at the end it will turn into a Dirty Bird. After
adding amaretto there will be a Roasted Toasted Almond. To get a Sneaky Pete a
barman should only replace the vodka with rye whiskey. As you can see, such a
related cocktail list may be really long.
