The
town of Malia never sleeps
Night clubs, bars, tavernas are open all night
long. The best time for strolling along the streets is morning, when numerous
European tourists sleep tortured by hangover and the town looks calm and cozy.
Quad riders usually appear by noon. If you don’t belong to them, the constant
wroom sound and crazy drivers may certainly irritate you.

A few words about Malia, Crete, Greece
Malia
is divided into the Old and New Town. In the Old Town you can find old
churches, two- or three-storied buildings which are mostly white and blue or
beige. The native men usually sit at little tables, smoking and chatting, in a
street café, situated right below the balcony where old women in black skirts
and white blouses watch tourists passing by. The local old women like sitting
on chairs somewhere in the shade. The houses are neat. Some of them have
windows without glass. The weather must be comfortable all year round. Grape, olive
and palm trees, plentiful flowers in Cretan pots make Old Malia very cozy. Despite
the heat at day time, it is a loveliest place on Crete.

The
New Town offers a great number of souvenir shops, cafes, bars, supermarkets,
night clubs and ‘rent-a-car-to-any-taste’ services. As Crete is famous for fur,
there are also fur-coat shops where you can be treated with a glass of Champaign.
Don’t forget to buy some leather product made on Crete. Traditional sandals are
very comfortable and comparatively cheep.
the Cretan Sea in Malia

Of
course, Malia’s beaches are said to be the best. They are sandy, no doubt. The
water in the Aegean Sea is of quite high salinity, so mind your eyes. The water
is transparent, clean and warm. It is wonderful for swimming. Besides snorkeling,
you can try different kinds of sea entertainment.
Malia Palace
In
the vicinity of Malia there is an archeological site. You can see the ruins of
Malia Palace dating back to 1900 BCE. If you are not keen on the Minoan period
on Crete, you will be bored there. Stones, few urns, stones…however, many men
many minds. All significant objects are now on display at the Iraklion Museum. (Heraklion
is the capital of Crete, located just 34 km of Malia.)
