Gel nail polish at home

My Back Story

Since childhood I have been paying attention to other people’s hands, especially to their nails. It may sound creepy but I still remember the hands of some of my classmates and school teachers. A brief look at a person’s hand gives me quite an image of his/her personality. Neat, beautiful or untidy and ugly fingers, fingernails say a lot about their owner. It doesn’t have anything in common with chiromancy or any other “–ancy”.

Let’s skip to the end of the story “How I see through people by looking at their hands”.

Here we go. Gel polish at home.

First, you need to prepare your nails. Clean and well-shaped nails with pushed back cuticles will do.

Next, make sure you have bought a gel nail polish kit.

It consists of a few basic things like:

- 36W LED lamp

- buffer

- rubbing alcohol (or nail cleanser)

- lint free wipes

- primer

- base coat

- gel polish of your favourite colour

- top coat

- wood cuticle sticks

- cuticle oil

Application

Now you are ready to start. Hand by hand.

1. Switch on the light. It’s more comfortable to do nails when you see them properly.

2. Take a buffer. Buff each nail very carefully.

3. Remove the dust with a lint-free wipe alcohol swabbed.

4. Apply a primer. Let it dry naturally. Do not touch your nails.

5. Take the gel polish base coat. Apply it in a thin layer. Seal the edges of your nails. The gel shouldn’t touch the cuticle. Use a wood stick to remove extra gel on cuticles if needed.

6. Place your fingers in the LED Lamp. Push 30 sec button.

7. Take a dry lint-free wipe and remove a so called “tacky surface” of the base coat. Wipe it off.

8. Take the gel polish of your favourite colour. Apply it from cuticle to edge.

9. Put the hand in the LED lamp for a minute.

10. Use a clean lint-free wipe to get rid of the tacky surface.

11. Repeat steps 8-10 if you feel the coverage needs to be even.

12. Take a gel polish top coat. Apply it from cuticle to edge.

13. Place the fingers in the LED lamp for a minute.

14. Wipe off the tacky surface if there is some.

15. Take the cuticle oil and apply it to the skin close to the nail.

Congratulations! Now you are almost a nail expert.

You can forget about the nails for a week or even more till it’s high time to remove the gel nail polish. That’s another long story... J
