With its long ear tufts, a smart facial expression and a bobbled tail, a lynx is one of the beautiful members of the cat family.

A lynx has got long whiskers and padded paws, which are a great help for walking on the snow in winter.

LOCATION AND COLOUR PEQUALIARITIES


Lynx is a wild medium-sized cat which is still met in North America, Europe and Asia. Unfortunately the lynx is among threatened species today. 
Lynxes differ according to their location. However, the body and limbs of most Lynx are usually marked with dark brown spots. Each kind of lynx has various coat colours. They may vary from reddish or light brown to beige. The chests, bellies and insides of their legs are white. Thickness of coat depends on the climatic conditions. The colder it gets, the thicker the fur is.

Mother-lynx brings up her cubs alone

  • Some lynxes may reach 110 cm (39 inches) in length and 60-69 cm (24-27 inches) in height.
  • The female lynxes are smaller than the male ones. They are usually about 38 inches in length and 52-61 cm (20-24 inches) in height.
  • The mass of lynx varies from 18 up to 28 kg or 40-62 ft.
  • Lynx is a nocturnal mammal. It means it is active at night.
  • Lynx is very quiet and cautious. Its prey seldom expects the lynx’s attack.
  • Lynx hunt deer, rabbits, mice, squirrels and birds.
  • The sharp vision lets the lynx see a mouse from a distance of 76 metres! (abt 250 feet)
  • Lynx lives up to 14-17 years in the wild and over 23 years in captivity, like in the zoo.
  • A mother-lynx may have from 1 to 4 cubs. The lynx pregnancy lasts only two months.
  • Lynx is a symbol of Gomel, an old Belarusian city.
