Nessebar, an ancient Bulgarian town

If you stay at Sunny Beach resort zone in Bulgaria you can easily visit an ancient town named Nessebar. Take bus 1 and get off at the Old Town bus-stop.

Ancient City of Nessebar is situated on a rocky peninsula on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast. When you first see ancient bricks of a fortress, you feel that time has stopped to show off the uniqueness of the place.

At the beginning of the 6th century BC, the city became a Greek colony. That is why here you can see the city’s remains, which date mostly from the Hellenistic period. They include the acropolis, a temple of Apollo, an agora and a wall from the Thracian fortifications.
The Church of St.Sophia

It is remarkable that the town has served for over thousands of years as spiritual hearth of Christian culture. There are Orthodox churches which date back to 6th-17th centuries. The Church of St.Sophia (5th-6th century), the church of Christ Pantocrator (13th-14th century) and the church of the Holly Saviour (1609) seem the most outstanding buildings on the peninsula.

Tourists and photographers may enjoy the wooden houses with stone foundations built in the 19th century, these buildings are typical of the Black Sea architecture of the period.

There are a lot of souvenir shops in narrow streets. Surely Bulgarian rose cosmetics will be one of the best gifts for your friends. Roses are everywhere, even in a cute jar of rose jam!

This place is certainly worth visiting!
